My name is Melle. I'm 20 years old and based in Haarlem. I started playing cello and ukelele when I was 5 years old and at 11 I started singing and writing my own songs too. One of my first songs got me into the Junior Songfestival finale (2012), but after that I've mainly written in English. During high school I started performing with a band for the first time and after that I was accepted at the Conservatory of Haarlem where I'm now in the third year.
My main instruments are vocals, piano and guitar, but I love using different kinds of less common instruments in my music as well like kalimba, ukelele, trouraz and lots more.
In 2019 I started with my own artist project 'Melle' where I play my songs with a band inspired by acts like Tom Odell, Coldplay and Ruben Hein. At the end of that year I won the Nobel Award Leiden and released my debut acoustic EP 'Y' a month later. I started to grow faster after the release of my single ‘On The Road’. It got support from both Spotify, Apple Music and Deezer and even reached Spotify’s ‘Viral 50’ in The Netherlands. I was also selected for Popronde, where critics call him one of the most promising acts of this year.
As a songwriter I make most of my songs for my own project by myself, but I also do a lot of cowriting sessions in all kinds of genres with other artist, producers and songwriters. My main focus in the writing proces is always melody and lyrics.
